BLACK PHENOMENON, PART 2

Last week I wrote an article called Black Phenomenon and in it, I began to discuss the similarities between the Jewish and Black communities.  While both have been through enormous struggles and have had attempts to see their respective peoples suffer great anguish.  However, as I stated, there has remained a great difference between the two groups after the smoke has cleared.  Jewish people have managed to establish greater level of wealth than any other group.  In the book Jewish Phenomenon, the author goes to great lengths to explain why Jews have such great resiliency.

Like that author, I would like to ‘cast the vision’of  a Black Phenomenon.  I hail from a people that withstood their families being torn apart, whips, lynchings alienation, fire hoses, discrimination, and disrespect.  Surely something like generational wealth is not something we can’t overcome. Right?  I recently put out a challenge to the Black community to register on the site to become a member of the Black Money Matters website.  My goal is to identify at least 25,000 people in the Black community who are willing to make a difference and start the trend to creating wealth.

Many of are familiar with the story of Gideon in the bible.  God tells Gideon that he is about to win a mighty battle, but the real challenge is not just the battle that is to ensue, but the number in which they will win it.  That day, Gideon triumphed over his enemies with merely 300 in his army.  My point is- we don’t need everyone to start the momentum, just a few people who are intent on seeing a change.  The change we desire to see in our neighborhoods are not going to just go away.  They have to be chiseled away with proper education, healthy financial habits and applied wisdom in our approach toward money.

I recently spoke to a young couple that I know who is trying hard to become financially responsible.  The husband and wife went to a financial seminar and as a result- they have no problem to save $1,000 in no time.  Two years ago, they could never amass any more than $200 in the bank, but now they have this new confidence about them.  They feel like there is very little that they can’t do. That to me sounds like the beginning of a Black Phenomenon.
